Ztom you need to stop listening to "buddies". Are they going to pay the penalties and interest on your tax return when the IRS disallows this stuff? Do you know the difference between a credit and a deduction? And if you are a preparer and if this is a client...Why did you post it in consumer questions?

Where is the $285 credit entered on the tax return?

I asked the same question. He did not know, I looked at every conceivable credit in Lacerte and could not come up with nothing even related. The tax preparer is in Ca and all the people who work with him are going to her and supposably amending their taxes and recieving big refunds. Think I will call this lady and inquire. Wonder if sher will talk to me or hang up. Had a lady in our town years ago who they called the Welding queen for her magical way of doing taxes. She was indicted and lost her license. Sound like she has been reincarnated.

Yeah, I'd call her and ask her!

This doesn't sound like the same thing, but MN does have a credit for active military personnel being deployed in a war zone. Perhaps the state has something similar?

And Michigan has a new exemption of $250 for a disabled vet.

I myself have lost a few clients to the incompetent preparer around the corner 'cause my refunds aren't as big as his.

His specialty is deducting pre-tax health insurance.
